Vostizza currants come from the Egialia region in the north of the Peloponnese in Greece, where they have been cultivated for centuries. The combination of rich soil, Mediterranean climate and traditional cultivation methods gives these small, seedless grapes their unmistakable aroma and deep dark color. After careful harvesting, the grapes are gently dried in the sun, allowing them to develop their natural sweetness and full flavor. It owes its name to the Greek port city of Corinth. Around 500 years ago, it also found ideal conditions for cultivation on the islands of Cephalonia and Zante. Today, currants are not only grown in Greece, but also in South Africa, Australia, California and Uzbekistan. In Turkey, there are now only small quantities left. There are different varieties depending on the growing region in the Peloponnese. The highest quality is the Vostizza corinth, followed by the mid-range varieties Amalia, Gulf and Patras. The Kalamata corinth is considered to be the lowest quality variety.
